Nutech Analytical, Inc., (formerly known as Maztech MicroVision Limited) is located in Canada's Silicon Valley North - Ottawa, Ontario. Engineering expertise and services abound in the National Capital Region which is home to many telecommunications, photonics, aerospace and software companies. In 1989 a local high tech company, Dipix Technologies adapted satellite imaging technology to the analysis of food quality. After working for several years on an image analysis method for quantifying bran content, starch damage and particle size in cereal products, Maztech MicroVision Ltd was formed. The goal of the company was to develop analytical equipment for food and non-food industries using the most appropriate high technologies and to commercialize the applications for distribution on a global basis.
In 1997 Maztech introduced an automated rapid instrument for objective speck counting - the SPX Speck Expert - using proprietary digital technology. Since then SPX techniques have rapidly expanded for quantifying specks in corn grits, farina, corn starch, bran in flour and scorched particles in spray-dried ingredients. It has become the benchtop method of choice for discriminating flour millers and food processors. In a few short years, Maztech has become the worldwide leader in benchtop image analysis instrumentation for grain and grain-based products. Maztech has achieved its position by developing innovative imaging technologies that either enhance or replace subjective manual methods of analysis.
In 2000, Maztech launched the SPY Grain Grader as the only equipment using linear CCD arrays to objectively measure grade and non-grade factors in grains and seeds. The SPY has set the standard for determining physical features in grains/seeds for use in breeding programs and for grain buyers and sellers. Current applications include Red Wheat (fusarium damaged kernels), Durum Wheat (diseased and damaged kernels), Malting Barley (diseased and damaged kernels), and kernel morphology.
In 2003, Perten Instruments announced the appointment of Kate Harrigan at Nutech Analytical, Inc. as the official Canadian representative for Perten Instruments and Chopin products with the goal of providing comprehensive sales and service expertise in their core markets of grain, flour, food, feed, and baking.
